Surgeries & Procedures-MtF
Labiaplasty (Stage Two)

Dr. Meltzer can usually create a very normal appearing vagina in one stage.
However, a secondary labiaplasty is recommended, though not required, at least 3 months after the vaginoplasty. The purpose of the labiaplasty is to create thinner inner labia, to provide some hooding to the clitoris, and to improve the overall aesthetic result. Not all patients will find this necessary.

WHO IS A CANDIDATE?

Patients desiring better definition of the inner labia and clitoral hooding. The labiaplasty
cannot be performed until at least three months after your vaginoplasty procedure.

INTENDED RESULTS

A more natural appearing vagina with a narrow upper and lower arch, clitoral hooding
and well-defined inner labia.

PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION

Dr. Meltzer's preference is to perform the procedure using IV sedation.
A near circumferential incision is made around the labia and the skin is aggressively
thinned and rearranged to form a more aesthetically pleasing labia.

PRE-OPERATIVE ELECTROLYSIS

A diagram is attached depicting Dr. Meltzer's preference for clearing the area 1 Cm or .4
inch around the clitoris. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE AREA TO BE CLEARED IS LESS THAN
1/2 INCH! Your electrologist is welcome to telephone the office for instructions if necessary. Conservative hair removal is recommended; a certain amount of hair is needed to adequately cover the scars. Additional hair can be removed at the patient's discretion six weeks after the labiaplasty.

PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

It is absolutely critical that one stop smoking a minimum of three weeks before surgery
and two weeks after surgery, the sooner the better.
Shortly before your procedure, a nurse will contact you to discuss medications you will
need both preoperatively and postoperatively.
Because we ask you to refrain from excessive walking and activity, it is recommended
that you ask for a room on the ground floor if the hotel you are staying at does not have an elevator.

STAY

HOW LONG SHOULD I STAY IN SCOTTSDALE?

If Dr. Meltzer performed your Vaginoplasty you will not need a pre-operative appointment. However, if General Anesthesia has been requested you will see Dr. Meltzer in a pre-operative appointment prior to your surgery. Following the procedure you will stay in the Recovery Care Center of the hospital for one night. You will need to stay in Scottsdale an additional one night. In total you need to plan on being in town at least three nights.

RECUPERATION AND HEALING

Patients are required to stay in the Greenbaum Recovery Care Center for a minimum of
one night. Dr. Meltzer strongly suggests that patients remain within the local area for a
second night. Only patients that have a very short trip home should anticipate leaving the next day,
yet he still recommends two nights.
Most patients experience only minor discomfort that is easily controlled with oral pain
medication. It is of the utmost importance to apply ice to the area during the first 48
hours after surgery to reduce swelling. Prolonged standing or walking is discouraged for
the first two to three days.
If you have a sedentary job, you may return to work within a few days. More active
jobs may take longer to recuperate, but usually no more than one week.

OTHER OPTIONS

Urethral Revisions and Clitoral Revisions can be done at the same time as the labiaplasty.
